ALW:
Japanese Division Coordinators
Naoko Hoshi & Charles Aschmann
Naoko Hoshi was born and educated in Japan. After majoring in English Literature at Aoyama Gakuin University, she worked in the international division of a major Japanese bank, studied languages, translation and teaching of Japanese as a foreign language. She has also worked as an English teacher, tutor and administrative assistant, translation researcher and of course translator. In addition to her education and work experience, residencies in both England and the United States as well as extensive travel around the world give her a unique ability to assess the complexities of Japanese translations.
Charles Aschmann not only has a vast amount of translation experience, nine published book translations forming only as small portion of his work, but also many years of experience as a professor at Japanese colleges and universities. His translations range from the literary to the highly technical. His unique education, majoring in chemistry and English, graduate work in writing and translation, as well as his wide ranging knowledge of technical subjects including computers, semiconductors, environmental technology and aerospace make him an ideal coordinator for the ALW Japanese Division. He is also the General Coordinator for ALW.
